6 week courses

Beginners Wheel Throwing

TERM 1: 2026

$490

Designed for complete beginners as well as practising potters looking to refine their technique; our 6 week wheel throwing course offers a comprehensive and hands-on introduction to wheel throwing. Whether this is your first time on the wheel or you’re returning to deepen your skills, you’ll be supported through every stage and skill level in a warn, inclusive studio environment.

Across six weeks, you’ll learn the fundamental foundations of wheel throwing, beginning with an introduction to clay preparation, wedging, and understanding the different stages of clay. From there, we’ll guide you through centring, pulling walls, and forming basic cylinder shapes — the building blocks for most functional pottery forms. As your confidence grows, you’ll explore bowls, mugs, and simple vase forms, with opportunities to practise throwing sets and experimenting with form and proportion.

You’ll also be introduced to essential studio skills such as clay recycling, trimming techniques for refining your pieces, and the basics of surface finishing. In the final weeks, you’ll learn how to apply studio glazes and prepare your work for firing; giving you a complete overview of the ceramic process from start to finish.

Our small class sizes create a supportive learning environment where you’ll receive one-on-one feedback tailored to your level and plenty of hands-on guidance. Expect a blend of structured teaching, personal exploration/play, and time to practise at your own pace.

All materials are included — aprons, clay, tools, glazes, and firings — so you can simply arrive ready to learn, create, and enjoy the satisfaction of making with your hands.

Advanced + Beginners Wheel Throwing

2.5 hrs . 8 weeks . $625 pp

Designed for students with previous wheel experience, as well as practising potters wanting to extend and refine their skills, this immersive eight-week course offers a deeper dive into wheel throwing — with an extra 30 minutes of throwing time each week to support focused practice and more ambitious projects.

Across the term, you’ll build on your foundational knowledge and be guided through a series of intermediate to advanced techniques, exploring the next steps in form, technique, and studio confidence. You’ll learn how to throw larger pieces, improve control and consistency, and work on more complex forms such as spouts, lids, altered shapes, multi-part forms, and refined functional ware. Demonstrations will adapt to the skill level of the group, ensuring both returning students and experienced throwers feel challenged and supported.

You’ll also have the opportunity to revisit essential skills — trimming, surface refinement, clay recycling, and glaze application — while developing more advanced throwing habits, including improved centring, wall compression, and throwing with intention.

Our small class sizes mean you’ll receive individualised guidance, tailored demonstrations, and regular one-on-one feedback. Each session blends structured teaching with self-directed time on the wheel, allowing you to progress at your own pace while working towards more ambitious forms.

All materials are included: aprons, clay, tools, glazes, and firings, so you can immerse yourself fully in the making process from week to week.
